Step By Step [Obey God, Even If You Don't Know Where He's Leading] Devotions Day 4
Beyond Your Lifetime
Devotional
We often approach faith with a limited timeframe... our lifetime. We want to see the fulfillment of every promise, the completion of every work God begins. But Abraham's story teaches us a profound truth: sometimes faith is about planting trees whose shade we'll never sit under. Abraham never saw the great nation God promised. He didn't witness the Messiah coming through his lineage. He didn't experience how all nations would be blessed through him. Yet he remained faithful, understanding that God's timeline extends far beyond a single human lifespan. This perspective transforms how we live. When we recognize that we're part of a story bigger than ourselves, we make different choices. We invest in future generations. We build with eternity in mind. We find peace when some promises remain unfulfilled in our lifetime, knowing that God's work continues. What legacy of faith are you building? What seeds are you planting that might not bloom until long after you're gone? Your faithfulness today... in parenting, in ministry, in quiet acts of obedience... creates ripples that extend far beyond what you can see. God invites us to participate in His eternal work, not just our temporary comfort. There's profound purpose in being part of something that outlasts us.
Bible Verse
All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. - Hebrews 11:13
Reflection Question
What aspect of your faith journey might be less about immediate results and more about the legacy you're creating for future generations?
Quote
Faith leaves a legacy.
Prayer
Lord, expand my vision beyond my own lifetime. Help me to be faithful in planting seeds of faith that may grow long after I'm gone. Thank You for including me in Your eternal story. Amen.
