Step By Step [Taking Steps To Freedom] Devotions Day 5
Freedom as a Process
Devotional
When the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, they weren't immediately in the Promised Land. They entered a wilderness... a place between bondage and their ultimate destination. This in-between space was challenging, but it was also where they learned to depend on God daily, where they received His law, and where they were shaped into a nation. Our journey to freedom follows a similar pattern. We often expect instant transformation after our initial steps of faith, but complete freedom usually unfolds as a process. There's a wilderness period between our Egypt and our Promised Land... a time of growth, testing, and deepening trust. If you find yourself in this wilderness today, don't be discouraged. You haven't failed, and God hasn't abandoned you. This space between bondage and complete freedom is where some of the most important work happens. Each day of trusting God, each choice to leave old patterns behind, each step forward in faith... these are all part of your freedom journey. Remember that God isn't just delivering you from something; He's delivering you into something greater. The wilderness isn't your final destination, but it's a necessary part of the path. Keep walking, keep trusting, and keep your eyes fixed on the God who has promised to complete the good work He began in you.
Bible Verse
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. - 2 Corinthians 3:17-18
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. - Philippians 1:6
Reflection Question
Where do you see yourself on the freedom journey... just leaving Egypt, crossing your Red Sea, or somewhere in the wilderness? What might God be teaching you in this particular stage?
Quote
"Finding freedom requires taking steps of faith with God. It's not just a destination, it's a process. God doesn't just deliver us from something, he delivers us into something greater."
Prayer
Lord, thank You that freedom is both an event and a process. Help me to be patient with myself and with Your timing as You work in my life. When I feel discouraged by how far I still have to go, remind me of how far You've already brought me. Give me strength for each day's journey, and help me to see the purpose in this in-between place. I trust that You who began this good work will be faithful to complete it. In Jesus' name, amen.
