Step By Step [Stepping Stones And Memorials] Devotions Day 1
Faith That Costs Something
Devotional
Have you ever noticed that the most meaningful things in life require sacrifice? A strong marriage takes effort. A successful career demands dedication. Physical fitness requires discipline. The same principle applies to our spiritual journey. When we examine the lives of those who made the greatest impact for God's kingdom, we discover a common thread: their faith came with a price tag. They were willing to step out of their comfort zones, make difficult choices, and sometimes carry heavy burdens that others couldn't see. Think about the Israelites crossing the Jordan River. God could have simply dried up the riverbed and left it that way. Instead, He asked twelve men to go back, pick up heavy stones from the riverbed, and carry them on their shoulders to build a memorial. It wasn't easy, but it was purposeful. Your faith journey isn't meant to be a comfortable stroll through life. God often calls us to take steps that require courage, sacrifice, and trust. Maybe it's choosing honesty when a lie would be easier. Perhaps it's forgiving someone who hurt you deeply. It could be serving others when it's not comfortable. These costly acts of faith aren't just about your personal growth... they're about creating something lasting that others can see. When people witness your willingness to do what's right, even when it's difficult, they begin to ask questions about the source of your strength. Remember, easy faith rarely leaves a lasting impact. But when you're willing to pay the price of obedience, God uses your sacrifice to build something beautiful that will encourage others for years to come.
Bible Verse
He told them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan, in front of the Ark of the Lord your God. Each of you must pick up one stone and carry it out on your shoulder—twelve stones in all, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel. - Joshua 4:5
Reflection Question
What is one area of your life where God might be calling you to take a costly step of faith, and how might this act of obedience become a testimony for others?
Quote
Faith that costs nothing usually accomplishes nothing.
Prayer
Lord, help me embrace the cost of following You. Give me courage to take steps of faith that require sacrifice, knowing that You will use my obedience to impact others. Strengthen me to choose Your way, even when it's difficult. Amen.
