Deeper Still [God's Voice] Devotions Day 4

Creating Space for Connection

Devotional
Prayer is meant to be an intimate conversation between you and the Creator of the universe. Yet too often, our prayers become rushed monologues where we present our requests and quickly move on with our day. True prayer, however, involves creating space for God to respond. When we hurry through prayer, we miss the opportunity for genuine connection. Imagine having a conversation with a close friend where you talk non-stop without ever pausing to hear their response. That wouldn't be much of a conversation, would it? The same principle applies to our relationship with God. Learning to embrace silence in prayer can feel uncomfortable at first. We're so accustomed to filling every moment with noise, activity, or thoughts. But silence isn't empty; it's where listening actually begins. In those quiet moments, God often speaks to our hearts in ways that rushed prayers never allow. Start small. After you finish speaking to God, simply wait. Don't feel pressured to fill the silence immediately. Allow yourself to rest in His presence and be attentive to what He might want to say to you. You might be surprised by the peace, clarity, or gentle promptings that come when you create space for Him to respond.

Bible Verse
May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the Lord. - Psalm 104:34

Reflection Question
What would it look like for you to build more intentional silence and waiting into your prayer time?

Quote
Silence is not empty. It is where listening actually begins.

Prayer
Lord, teach me to slow down in prayer and create space for You to speak. Help me embrace silence as an opportunity to hear Your voice more clearly.
