Deeper Still [God's Voice] Devotions Day 2

The Heart That Listens

Devotional
Samuel's story reminds us that God can speak to anyone, regardless of age or experience. When God first called Samuel's name in the temple, the young boy didn't immediately recognize whose voice it was. He ran to Eli, thinking his mentor had called him. This happened three times before Eli realized God was speaking to Samuel and instructed him how to respond. What's beautiful about Samuel's story is his heart posture. He was already serving in the temple, staying close to where God's presence dwelt. When he heard the voice, he didn't ignore it or dismiss it as imagination. Instead, he responded immediately, even though he was confused about its source. Samuel's experience teaches us that listening comes before understanding. We don't need to have everything figured out to begin responding to God's voice. Sometimes, like Samuel, we need wise mentors to help us recognize when God is speaking. The key is maintaining a heart that's ready to listen and respond. God desires to speak to you today, just as He spoke to young Samuel. Your age, experience level, or current circumstances don't disqualify you from hearing His voice. What matters is your willingness to listen and your readiness to respond when He calls your name.

Bible Verse
And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.” - 1 Samuel 3:10

God, give me a heart like Samuel's that's ready to listen and respond to Your voice. Help me stay close to Your presence and be open to Your calling.
