Step By Step [Taking Steps To Freedom] Devotions Day 1

The First Step of Freedom

Devotional
Freedom begins with a single step away from bondage. For the Israelites, this meant physically leaving Egypt after centuries of slavery. For us, it means identifying and walking away from whatever holds us captive... whether it's addiction, harmful relationships, destructive thought patterns, or lingering shame. Leaving our personal Egypt isn't easy. The familiar, even when painful, can feel safer than the unknown journey ahead. Pharaoh didn't let the Israelites go without a fight, and our own bondage often resists our attempts at freedom. The voices of doubt, fear, and past failures whisper that we'll never truly be free. But Moses shows us the way forward. Despite facing a powerful king and seemingly impossible odds, he chose to focus not on the visible threats but on the invisible God who had promised deliverance. His eyes weren't fixed on Pharaoh's army but on the faithful One who called him. Today, you might be standing at the edge of your Egypt, hearing God's call to freedom but hesitating to take that first step. Remember that freedom always begins with obedience... even when it's risky, even when it's hard. You don't need to see the entire journey ahead; you just need courage for today's step.

Bible Verse
It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger. He kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the one who is invisible. - Hebrews 11:27

Reflection Question
What is your 'Egypt'... the place of bondage God is calling you to leave behind? What first step of obedience might He be asking you to take today?

Quote
"Don't glamorize Egypt just because it's familiar. Don't stay stuck just because walking out takes effort."

Prayer
Lord, give me the courage to identify my places of bondage and the faith to take that first step away from them. Help me fix my eyes not on what I can see, but on You—the invisible God who promises freedom. When I'm tempted to stay in familiar captivity, remind me that You have something better ahead. Amen.
