God Makes All Things New [A New Identity] Devotions Day 2
Breaking Free From Yesterday
Devotional
There's a spiritual reality that many believers don't fully grasp: when you placed your faith in Christ, your old sinful nature was crucified with Him. This isn't just theological language... it's a powerful truth that breaks the chains of your past. Sin no longer has the same power over you that it once did. The enemy wants to convince you otherwise, constantly bringing up your past failures and mistakes, but he's got the wrong person. That old you doesn't exist anymore. Think about it this way: when someone dies, they're no longer bound by the debts or obligations of their former life. Spiritually speaking, your old self died with Christ, and you were raised to new life with Him. This means the power that sin once had over you has been broken. You're no longer a slave to destructive patterns or addictive behaviors. Yes, you'll still face temptation, but you now have the power to say no. The freedom Christ offers isn't just forgiveness for past sins... it's liberation from sin's controlling power in your life.
Bible Verse
For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. - Romans 6:4-7
Reflection Question
What destructive pattern or sin in your life do you need to recognize as having no power over the new you, and how can you practically live in this freedom today?
Quote
The enemy wants to try to dredge all that stuff up. He's got the wrong person. That's the old you. That old you doesn't exist anymore.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for breaking the power of sin in my life through Your death and resurrection. Help me to live in the freedom You've given me and to remember that my old self is dead and gone. Give me strength to resist temptation and walk in newness of life. Amen.
