God Makes All Things New [A New Home] Devotions Day 2

Citizens of Heaven

Devotional
Imagine living in a foreign country, knowing that you're just visiting and that your real home is somewhere else entirely. You might appreciate the culture and make friends, but you'd never forget where you truly belong. You'd live differently, knowing this isn't your permanent address. That's exactly our situation as followers of Christ. We are citizens of heaven, temporarily residing on earth. This isn't just a nice metaphor... it's our actual reality. Our true citizenship, our real identity, and our ultimate destination are all found in heaven with God. This truth should radically change how we live. When we remember that we're children of the King, sons and daughters of royalty, it changes how we see ourselves and our purpose. We're not defined by our earthly struggles, our past mistakes, or the limitations of this world. We're defined by our heavenly Father and our eternal inheritance. Living as citizens of heaven means we invest in things that matter for eternity. We love differently, forgive more freely, and hope more boldly because we know this world isn't the end of our story. We're just passing through on our way home to the place Jesus is preparing for us.

Bible Verse
But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control. - Philippians 3:20-21

Reflection Question
What would change in your daily priorities and decisions if you truly lived like your citizenship is in heaven rather than on earth?

Quote
If you're a child of the King, you're a son or daughter of the King. You are a citizen of Heaven. You are just visiting here before you go back home.

Prayer
Lord, remind me daily that I am a citizen of heaven. Help me to live with the dignity and purpose that comes from being Your child, and let my earthly life reflect my heavenly identity. Amen.
