Name Above All Names [Palm Sunday] Devotions Day 2

The Donkey or the War Horse

Devotional
Picture this: a mighty king preparing for his grand entrance into the capital city. What would you expect? A magnificent war horse, gleaming armor, a parade of soldiers? Instead, Jesus chose a donkey... the most humble of animals. This wasn't a mistake or a lack of resources. It was a deliberate choice that revealed the heart of God's kingdom. In our world, we're taught to climb the ladder, grab power, and reach the top no matter who we step on. We choose the war horse mentality; aggressive, dominating, impressive. But Jesus shows us a different way. The donkey represents peace, servanthood, and humility. It's not about being weak; it's about being strong enough to choose gentleness. Every day, we face this choice: will we choose the donkey or the war horse? Will we lead with humility or pride? Will we serve others or demand to be served? The path Jesus took wasn't just for that moment in Jerusalem... it's the pattern for how His followers should live. True strength is found in choosing the donkey when the world expects a war horse.

Bible Verse
The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as he entered. “Who is this?” they asked. And the crowds replied, “It’s Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.” - Matthew 21:10-11

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life are you choosing the 'war horse' approach when God is calling you to choose the 'donkey' path of humility?

Quote
Would you choose the donkey or would you choose the war horse?

Prayer
Jesus, give me the courage to choose humility over pride and service over self-promotion. Help me follow Your example of strength through gentleness.
