God Makes All Things New [A New Home] Devotions Day 4
Setting Our Minds Above
Devotional
Where your mind goes, your life follows. What we think about shapes what we care about, and what we care about determines how we live. That's why Paul's instruction to "set your sights on the realities of heaven" is so crucial for followers of Christ. Setting our minds on heavenly things doesn't mean we become so heavenly minded that we're no earthly good. Instead, it means we view our earthly life through the lens of eternity. We ask ourselves: What does God care about? What matters for His kingdom? How can I show the world a glimpse of heaven right here on earth? When we focus on heavenly realities, our earthly priorities naturally shift. We become less concerned with accumulating possessions and more concerned with loving people. We worry less about our reputation and more about God's glory. We invest less in temporary pleasures and more in eternal treasures. This mindset also brings incredible freedom. When we remember that our real life is hidden with Christ in God, we're freed from the pressure to find our identity in earthly achievements or approval. We can take risks for the kingdom because we know our security is in heaven. We can love sacrificially because we know our reward is eternal.
Bible Verse
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. - Colossians 3:1-2
Reflection Question
What specific areas of your life need to be realigned with heavenly priorities rather than earthly concerns?
Quote
Ask yourself, what are the things of heaven that deserve my attention? What does God care about and want me to focus on?
Prayer
God, help me to set my mind on the things that matter to You. Transform my thinking so that my life reflects Your kingdom values and priorities. Show me what deserves my attention and what I should let go. Amen.
