Deeper Still [Find God] Devotions Day 2
Sacred in the Ordinary
Devotional
Yesterday we discovered that God moves toward us first. Today, let's explore where He meets us... not in grand, spiritual moments, but in the everyday rhythms of our lives. When Jesus approached Peter, it wasn't during a worship service or a spiritual retreat. Peter was doing what he did every day... fishing, washing nets, going through the motions of ordinary work. Yet this mundane moment became the launching pad for Peter's extraordinary calling. How often do we miss God's presence because we're looking for Him in the wrong places? We might think He only shows up during church services, prayer times, or major life events. But the truth is, God is just as present when you're stuck in traffic, doing laundry, or having a difficult conversation with a coworker. Your ordinary moments... the ones that feel routine, boring, or even frustrating... are often the very places where God chooses to reveal His extraordinary presence. That challenging day at work might be where He's teaching you patience. The conversation with your neighbor could be His way of showing you how to love others. The quiet moments before sleep might be when He speaks most clearly to your heart. This perspective transforms how we approach each day. Instead of compartmentalizing our spiritual life into specific times and places, we begin to recognize that every moment is an opportunity to encounter God. Our daily routines become sacred ground where the divine intersects with the ordinary. When we understand this truth, we stop waiting for perfect conditions to connect with God and start recognizing His presence in the life we're already living.
Bible Verse
One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God. He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there. - Luke 5:1-3
Reflection Question
Looking back at your week, where might God have been present in your ordinary moments that you didn't initially recognize as sacred?
Quote
Our ordinary moments are often places where God chooses to reveal his extraordinary presence.
Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to see You in the everyday moments of my life. Help me recognize that no moment is too ordinary for Your presence. Teach me to find the sacred in the routine. Amen.
