Step By Step [Keep In Step With God] Devotions Day 4

Development, Not Denial

Devotional
Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the Christian life. When we pray for something and don't see immediate results, it's natural to wonder if God has forgotten us or if He's saying no. But what if God's delays aren't denials at all? What if they're actually development opportunities in disguise? Consider a farmer who plants seeds. The time between planting and harvest isn't wasted time... it's essential development time. Underground, invisible to the eye, roots are growing deeper and stems are strengthening. The farmer doesn't dig up the seeds to check on their progress; he trusts the process and waits for the right time to harvest. God works similarly in our lives. When He delays answering a prayer or fulfilling a promise, He's not being cruel or forgetful. He's developing something in us that we need for what's coming. Maybe He's building our character, strengthening our faith, or preparing us to handle the blessing He wants to give us. The Israelites had to wait to possess all of the Promised Land, not because God was withholding good from them, but because they needed time to grow in strength and capacity. God knew that receiving everything at once would overwhelm them and potentially harm them. His timing was perfect, even when it didn't feel that way. Today, if you're in a season of waiting, ask God to help you see it as a season of development. What might He be growing in you during this time? How is He preparing you for what's ahead? Trust that His delays are not denials—they're His loving way of ensuring you're ready for all He has planned for you.

Bible Verse
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. - Galatians 6:9

Reflection Question
In what area of your life are you currently waiting on God, and what character qualities or spiritual growth might He be developing in you during this season?

Quote
God's delays are not denials. They're often development. It's not punishment, it's preparation.

Prayer
God, help me to trust Your timing even when I don't understand it. When I'm tempted to think You've forgotten me or denied my prayers, remind me that You might be developing something beautiful in me. Give me patience to wait on Your perfect timing and faith to believe that You're working even when I can't see it. Amen.
