Step By Step [Small Steps And Leaps Of Faith] Devotions Day 1
When Steps Feel Like Leaps
Devotional
Have you ever misjudged a step and found yourself stumbling, arms flailing as you try to regain your balance? That moment of panic when what should have been a simple step suddenly feels like you're leaping across a canyon? Life has a way of surprising us like this. We plan for small, manageable steps in our faith journey, but sometimes God calls us to what feels like impossible leaps. The Israelites understood this feeling all too well. Standing at the banks of the flooding Jordan River, they faced what seemed like an insurmountable obstacle. After 40 years of wandering, they were finally at the threshold of God's promise, but the path forward looked terrifying. The river was at flood stage... wider, deeper, and more dangerous than usual. But here's what we need to remember: what feels like a giant leap to us is nothing to God. When we're standing at the edge of our own Jordan River... whether it's a difficult conversation we need to have, a career change we're considering, or a calling we're afraid to pursue... the size of the challenge isn't what matters. What matters is the size of our God. Faith isn't about our ability to handle what's ahead; it's about trusting the One who goes before us. If we could manage everything on our own, we wouldn't need faith at all. The very fact that it feels overwhelming is often a sign that God is inviting us into something bigger than ourselves.
Bible Verse
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. - Hebrews 11:1
Reflection Question
What situation in your life currently feels more like a leap than a step, and how might God be inviting you to trust Him in this challenge?
Quote
Has a step of faith ever felt like a giant leap to you?
Prayer
Lord, when the steps You're calling me to take feel like impossible leaps, help me remember that what seems overwhelming to me is nothing to You. Give me the courage to trust Your heart when I can't see Your plan. Amen.
