Step By Step [Small Steps And Leaps Of Faith] Devotions Day 3

Stepping Before Seeing

Devotional
There's something both terrifying and exhilarating about stepping into the unknown. When the Israelites reached the Jordan River, they faced a moment that would define their faith forever. Unlike their parents' generation who saw the Red Sea part before they walked across, this time God asked for something different... He wanted them to step into the flooding river before He would perform the miracle. Imagine being one of those priests carrying the Ark. Your feet are at the water's edge, the current is strong, and God is asking you to walk into what looks like certain disaster. This wasn't a shallow creek or even a calm river... this was the Jordan at flood stage, impossible for even expert swimmers to cross. Yet this is often how faith works. God calls us to take the step before we see the miracle. He asks us to trust Him in the darkness before He turns on the light. This isn't because God enjoys watching us squirm; it's because genuine faith requires us to depend on Him rather than on what we can see or understand. When we step out in faith before seeing the outcome, we're declaring that we trust God's character more than our circumstances. We're saying that His promises are more reliable than our fears. And here's the beautiful part... when we take that step of faith, God shows up in ways that exceed our expectations.

Bible Verse
For we walk by faith, not by sight. - 2 Corinthians 5:7

Reflection Question
What is God asking you to step into before you can see how it will work out, and what's holding you back from taking that step?

Quote
God often requires us to take the step of faith before we see his miraculous work unfold.

Prayer
God, it's scary to step forward when I can't see the outcome. Give me the courage to trust Your promises more than my fears. Help me to walk by faith, knowing that You are faithful to Your word. Amen.
