I Am [The Gate For The Sheep] Devotions Day 2
The Danger of False Voices
Devotional
We're constantly bombarded with messages telling us to "live your best life," "follow your heart," or "do what makes you happy." These phrases sound encouraging and positive, but they can actually lead us away from God's best for us. Jesus warned about thieves and robbers who come only to steal, kill, and destroy. These aren't just physical threats but include any voice or influence that pulls us away from the Shepherd. The world's advice often sounds good on the surface but lacks the depth and truth of Jesus' guidance. The Bible cautions us about following our hearts without God's direction. Our hearts can be deceptive, leading us toward what feels good in the moment rather than what's truly good for us eternally. This is why discernment is so crucial. When we follow voices that contradict Scripture, we often find ourselves in places of confusion, pain, and emptiness—far from the abundant life Jesus promises. The enemy doesn't always appear threatening; sometimes he comes disguised in appealing messages that subtly lead us astray. Today, examine the voices you're paying attention to. Are they leading you toward Christ or away from Him? Are they aligned with Scripture or with worldly wisdom? The voices we follow ultimately shape the lives we lead.
Bible Verse
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. - John 10:10
Reflection Question
What seemingly positive messages or advice have you followed that, in retrospect, led you away from God's best for your life?
Quote
"I came across a lot of memes that said, live your best life. There was a meme that said, follow your heart. Follow the desires of your heart. Right? Do what makes you happy. That's the kind of voices I'm talking about. Those sound encouraging, but they're not. That's bad advice."
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me discernment to recognize false voices, even when they sound appealing. Help me test everything against Your Word. Thank You for desiring to give me abundant life rather than destruction. Guide me to follow only Your voice today. Amen.
