Strangers In This Land [Trust God's Promises] Devotions Day 3

The Blessing of Obedience

Devotional
Obedience often precedes blessing. We see this pattern throughout Scripture, but perhaps nowhere more clearly than in Abraham's story. God's incredible promise to bless Abraham, make him into a great nation, and bless all peoples on earth through him came with a prerequisite: "Go to the land I will show you." The blessing was contingent on Abraham's willingness to follow God's direction. Had Abraham stayed in Haran, comfortable in his familiar surroundings, he would have missed out on becoming the father of many nations and part of God's redemptive plan. Sometimes God's promises require significant adjustments in our lives. They may disrupt our comfort, challenge our plans, or lead us into unfamiliar territory. But the blessings that follow obedience are always greater than what we leave behind. God's promises to Abraham were fulfilled in ways far beyond what he could have imagined. Through his lineage came the Messiah, Jesus Christ, bringing salvation to all who believe. And through Christ, we become heirs to these same promises. When God calls you to obedience today, remember that His blessings are worth the journey. The path may be uncertain, but the One who promises is faithful.

Bible Verse
So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. - Genesis 12:4

Reflection Question
What blessing might God be preparing for you on the other side of your obedience?

Quote
"The immense promise of blessing first required obedience. God's promise often requires serious personal adjustment in our lives, as we see in the story of Abram. God's promise was larger than he could have ever imagined."

Prayer
Lord, help me to obey You even when it's difficult or uncomfortable. I trust that Your plans for me are good, and that Your blessings are worth any sacrifice. Give me the courage to follow where You lead, knowing that You are faithful to fulfill Your promises. Amen.
