Strangers In This Land [Trust God's Promises] Devotions Day 4

Heirs of the Promise

Devotional
When we read about God's promises to Abraham in Genesis, we might wonder what they have to do with us today. The answer is found in Galatians 3, where Paul explains that through faith in Christ, we become Abraham's spiritual descendants and heirs to the promises God made to him. This is the beautiful reality of the gospel. Jesus is the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham to bless all nations through his offspring. And when we put our faith in Jesus, we are adopted into God's family and receive the inheritance of these promises. This gives us tremendous confidence in God's faithfulness. If God kept His promise to Abraham—a promise that spanned centuries and required miraculous intervention—we can trust Him to keep His promises to us as well. Promises that He will never leave us. That He will give us wisdom when we ask. That He will comfort us in our troubles and direct our steps. God's track record of faithfulness to Abraham becomes our assurance of His faithfulness to us. When we see how God fulfilled His word through Jesus Christ, we can face our own uncertainties with confidence, knowing that the God who called us is trustworthy.

Bible Verse
And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you. - Galatians 3:29

Reflection Question
How does knowing you are an heir to God's promises through Christ change your perspective on the challenges you're facing?

Quote
"If you have put your faith in God and if you are a follower of Jesus, you are adopted into the family of God as a child of God. And this gives you the right to the inheritance of the promises to Abram as his descendants."

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for making me an heir to Your promises through Jesus Christ. Help me to live with the confidence that comes from knowing You are faithful to fulfill Your word. When I face uncertainty, remind me of Your track record of faithfulness throughout history and in my own life. Amen.
