Strangers In This Land [Trust God's Provision] Devotion Day 3

Confident in God's Provision

Devotional
As Abraham and Isaac climbed Mount Moriah, Isaac asked a heart-wrenching question: "Where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" Abraham's response reveals the depth of his trust: "God himself will provide the lamb." In that moment, Abraham didn't know exactly how God would work things out. He only knew that the God who had been faithful throughout his life would be faithful again. His confidence wasn't in his own understanding but in God's character. When they reached the place of sacrifice and Abraham was about to lower the knife, God intervened. A ram caught in a thicket became the substitute sacrifice. Abraham named that place "The Lord Will Provide"—not just as a memorial of what God had done, but as a testimony of who God is. Like Abraham, we face situations where we don't see the solution. The path forward seems impossible. Yet the same God who provided for Abraham promises to provide for us. Our role is not to figure everything out but to trust the Provider even when we can't see the provision yet. Whatever mountain you're climbing today, remember Abraham's confidence: God will provide.

Bible Verse
Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” - Genesis 22:13-14

Reflection Question
When has God provided for you in an unexpected way, and how can that memory strengthen your faith in your current circumstances?

Quote
When Isaac asked, where's the lamb for the offering? Abraham replies, God will provide. God will provide. Abraham cannot tell Isaac what is going to happen because he doesn't himself know what's going to happen. But he is confident that the same God that has shown himself faithful and true time and time again will show himself faithful and true in this situation as well.

Prayer
Jehovah Jireh, my Provider, thank You for seeing my needs before I even ask. When I can't see a way forward, help me to remember Your faithfulness. Increase my confidence in Your provision, not just for my physical needs but for everything I face. May I, like Abraham, declare Your goodness even before I see Your provision. Amen.
