Step By Step [Obey God, Even If It Doesn't Make Sense] Devotions Day 1

The Heart of Obedience

Devotional
When God looks at us, He doesn't see our perfect performance... He sees our hearts. Noah wasn't chosen because he was flawless, but because his heart was fully devoted to God. In a world consumed by wickedness, Noah stood out not for his abilities but for his relationship with God. It's easy to believe we need to clean up our act before following God's call. We think we need to be better, stronger, or wiser first. But that's not what God requires. He simply wants a heart that's turned toward Him. Noah found favor with God because of his righteous heart—meaning he pursued a right relationship with his Creator. This relationship became the foundation for his extraordinary obedience. When God gave Noah seemingly impossible instructions, he didn't hesitate because his heart was already aligned with God's purposes. Today, God is still looking for hearts fully surrendered to Him. He's not waiting for perfect people to accomplish His work... He's looking for willing hearts ready to trust Him completely. Your willingness to follow God matters more than your perceived qualifications. What area of your life are you holding back from God because you don't feel ready or qualified? Remember, God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called. He sees your heart, and that's what matters most to Him.

Bible Verse
But Noah found favor with the Lord. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. - Genesis 6:8-9

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life might you be waiting to "get perfect" before responding to God's leading, and how might your perspective change if you focused on your heart posture instead?

Quote
"It wasn't that Noah was perfect. It was that Noah was a righteous man. He was in right relationship with God. He was a man that pursued God. He walked in close fellowship with God. This is why Noah found favor with the Lord. God could see Noah's heart was turned fully towards him."

Prayer
Lord, thank You for seeing my heart rather than demanding perfection. Help me to turn my heart fully toward You today. Remove any barriers of inadequacy that keep me from responding to Your call. I want to walk faithfully with You like Noah did. Amen.
