More Than Enough [God's Word] Devotions Day 2

When God's Call Meets Real Life

Devotional
There's something deeply relatable about Gideon's story that speaks to our modern experience. When God first called Gideon to lead Israel against their oppressors, he felt the power of that divine encounter. The calling was clear, the mission was set, and initially, there was confidence. But then reality set in. The enemy forces were vast, the odds seemed impossible, and suddenly that clear calling felt uncertain. This pattern is so familiar to many of us today. We have powerful encounters with God where His call on our lives feels crystal clear. Maybe it's a calling to ministry, to start a business, to move to a new city, or to step into a leadership role. In those moments of divine encounter, we feel strong and confident. But then we face the practical realities... the financial challenges, the opposition, the sheer magnitude of what lies ahead... and doubt begins to creep in. Gideon's experience teaches us that this cycle of confidence followed by doubt is normal. When God calls us to something significant, the enemy will often use circumstances to make us question that calling. The key is recognizing that doubt often intensifies when we're on the verge of something important that God wants to do through us. Instead of seeing doubt as a stop sign, we can learn to see it as a signal that we're moving in the right direction, even when the road gets difficult.

Bible Verse
Then Gideon said to God, “If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised, - Judges 6:36

Reflection Question
Can you think of a time when you felt clearly called by God to something, but then circumstances made you question that calling... and how might understanding Gideon's experience help you navigate similar situations in the future?

Quote
This is one of the most relatable pieces of the Gideon story to us today... God calls you and you may have doubts, but you have this intense encounter with God and you feel strongly about it when God calls you. But then later experience doubt all over again and begin to second guess God.

Prayer
Father, when Your calling on my life meets the harsh realities of this world, help me to remember that doubt doesn't negate Your call. Strengthen my faith to persevere even when circumstances seem overwhelming. Amen.
