Beyond the Performance

Have you ever caught yourself doing something good just to be noticed? Maybe posting about a charitable act on social media or making sure others see your generosity? Jesus addresses this very human tendency in His teaching about authentic righteousness. The Pharisees had mastered the art of looking righteous on the outside while their hearts remained unchanged. They were like beautifully polished cups that were filthy on the inside. Jesus calls us to something deeper; a righteousness that flows from genuine transformation rather than public performance. When we give, pray, or serve with the primary motivation of being seen and praised by others, we've already received our reward in full. But when our good deeds flow from a heart that has been transformed by God's love, they become authentic expressions of who we truly are in Christ. The question isn't whether people notice our righteousness, but whether our righteousness is real when nobody is watching at all.
