Bonfire [Sanctified Flesh] Devotions Day 4

Captivated by Something Greater

Devotional
Trying to quit something you love by sheer force of will is exhausting. Anyone who has tried it knows that. You can white-knuckle your way through a day, maybe a week, but eventually the grip loosens. Willpower alone was never designed to carry you all the way. Here is the shift that changes everything: it is not about what you are giving up. It is about what you are running toward. When you are genuinely captivated by Jesus, when He becomes more real and more compelling than the sin you keep returning to, something changes. You are not gritting your teeth and saying no. You are saying yes to something so much better that the old thing starts to lose its grip. Galatians 5:24 puts it plainly. Those who belong to Christ have crucified the passions and desires of the sinful nature. That is not a description of people who tried harder. It is a description of people who fell in love with Jesus deeply enough that they were willing to put those things to death. You do not have to manufacture that love. Ask for it. Tell God honestly that you want to want Him more than you want the thing that is pulling you away. That prayer is one He loves to answer. He is worth it. He is worth dying to the old life for. And the more you know Him, the more you will believe that.

Bible Verse
"Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there." - Galatians 5:24

Reflection Question
If you are honest with yourself, are you trying to quit sin through willpower, or are you actively pursuing a deeper relationship with Jesus that makes Him more compelling than what you are tempted by?

Quote
"This is about being captivated by something so much more than the sin that you crave. This is about being captivated by someone who worth dying for, by someone Worth putting those sins to death for."

Prayer
Jesus, I want to be captivated by You more than I am captivated by anything else. Increase my love for You until it is stronger than every pull toward what I know is not good for me. Amen.
