Famous Last Words [Jesus Loved His Enemies] Devotions Day 2

Learning from the Master of Forgiveness

Devotional
In Jesus's darkest hour, He demonstrated the ultimate example of forgiveness. While hanging on the cross, experiencing unimaginable pain and humiliation, His response wasn't anger or bitterness - it was a prayer for His persecutors' forgiveness. This wasn't just a passive acceptance; it was an active choice to love those who were causing Him harm. Jesus's example shows us that true forgiveness isn't dependent on the severity of the offense or the worthiness of the offender. If Jesus could forgive those who were literally killing Him, what excuse do we have for holding onto our comparatively smaller grievances?

Bible Verse
"Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.'" - Luke 23:34

Reflection Question
What grudges or resentments are you holding onto that seem impossible to forgive? How does Jesus's example challenge your perspective?

Quote
This isn't just someone who hurt Jesus by saying something bad to hurt His feelings. These were the people who were in the very act of murdering Him. And He is praying for them. "Father, forgive them. They don't know what they are doing".

Prayer
Jesus, thank You for Your incredible example of forgiveness. Help me to follow in Your footsteps, even when forgiveness feels impossible. Amen.
