More Than Enough [God's Calling] Devotions Day 4

Start With the Next Step

Devotional
God didn't immediately send Gideon to face the entire Midianite army. Instead, He gave him a smaller but significant first assignment: tear down the idol altars in his hometown. This wasn't a massive military campaign... it was a manageable but courage-requiring task that would prepare Gideon for what was to come. This reveals something important about how God works in our lives. He rarely shows us the entire plan at once. Instead, He asks for obedience in the next step. Maybe you've been waiting for God to reveal His complete will for your life before you take any action. But God's pattern is to give us enough light for the next step, not the whole journey. Gideon's first act of obedience, destroying the idols, not only prepared his heart but also began to transform his community. When we take that first step of faith, even when we can't see the full picture, God uses our obedience to accomplish more than we could imagine. Your next step might seem small or insignificant, but it could be the beginning of something extraordinary. The question isn't whether you can handle everything God might call you to do in the future. The question is: Will you be obedient to what He's asking you to do today?

Bible Verse
That night the Lord said to Gideon, “Take the second bull from your father’s herd, the one that is seven years old. Pull down your father’s altar to Baal, and cut down the Asherah pole standing beside it. Then build an altar to the Lord your God here on this hilltop sanctuary, laying the stones carefully. Sacrifice the bull as a burnt offering on the altar, using as fuel the wood of the Asherah pole you cut down.” So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord had commanded. But he did it at night because he was afraid of the other members of his father’s household and the people of the town. - Judges 6:25-27

Reflection Question
What is one specific step God might be asking you to take today, even if you can't see how it fits into His bigger plan for your life?

Quote
We don't have to know every step. We just have to be obedient to the next step that God is asking us to take.

Prayer
God, give me the courage to take the next step You're showing me, even when I can't see the full path ahead. Help me trust that my obedience today is preparing me for what You have planned tomorrow. Amen.
