Dry Bones [God's Spirit] Devotions Day 3

You Need Both: The Word and the Spirit

Devotional
After the bones came together and the bodies formed, God gave Ezekiel a second instruction. Speak to the breath. Call it in. And when Ezekiel did, the breath entered them and they stood up, a vast army, fully alive. Two things worked together in that valley: the Word and the Spirit. The Word brought order, direction, and truth. The Spirit brought life and power. Both were needed to complete the work. This is still true for us today. Reading the Bible gives us truth to stand on and direction for our lives. But the Holy Spirit is the one who makes that truth come alive inside of us, who takes what we read and turns it into real transformation. One without the other leaves something missing. If your time in Scripture has started to feel dry or routine, try approaching it differently. Instead of reading just to gain information or check a box, ask the Holy Spirit to meet you in it. Invite Him to make the words come alive. Ask Him to speak to you personally through what you are reading. God designed the Word and the Spirit to work together. When you lean into both, something shifts. Truth becomes more than knowledge. It becomes life.

Bible Verse
So I spoke the message as he commanded me, and breath came into their bodies. They all came to life and stood up on their feet—a great army. - Ezekiel 37:10

Reflection Question
When you open the Bible, are you primarily looking for information, or are you inviting the Holy Spirit to speak to you personally through it?

Quote
"The Word gives direction and truth. The Spirit gives life and power. We have to have it both."

Prayer
Lord, teach me to approach Your Word with expectation. Holy Spirit, meet me in the pages of Scripture and make truth come alive in my heart, not just my mind.
