The Flame That Forms Us [Bold Faith Is Sacrificial] Devotions Day 2

Eyes on the Prize

Devotional
In life's most challenging moments, where we fix our gaze makes all the difference. When waves crash around us and pressure mounts, our natural instinct is to focus on our problems or our pain. But there's a better way. Stephen, facing death by stoning, didn't focus on his accusers or his circumstances. Instead, he lifted his eyes to heaven and saw Jesus. This simple act of focusing on Christ didn't change his external situation, but it transformed his internal response. When our eyes are fixed on Jesus, what others see as sacrifice becomes an opportunity for worship.

Bible Verse
But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand. - Acts 7:55

We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. - Hebrews 12:2

Reflection Question
When facing difficult circumstances, what typically captures your attention first - the problem or the presence of Jesus? How might intentionally shifting your focus change your response?

Quote
If you keep your eyes on Jesus, it becomes easy to live out a life of bold faith that is sacrificial.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, especially when life gets hard. Let Your presence be more real to me than my problems. Amen.
