Following Jesus [Build] Devotions Day 2
A Journey, Not a Destination
Devotional
There is a temptation to treat faith like a checklist. Attend the class, finish the study, check the box, and move on. But following Jesus does not work that way. It never has. Becoming more like Jesus is a lifelong process. It is not something you graduate from. Every season of life brings new opportunities to surrender, to grow, and to look a little more like Him than you did before. That is actually good news, because it means you are never too far behind and never too far ahead to keep growing. Paul understood this. He wrote to Timothy not as someone who had it all figured out, but as someone who had walked the road long enough to know that the road itself is the point. The goal is not to arrive at a comfortable, settled version of faith. The goal is transformation, the kind that actually changes how you live, how you love, and what you are willing to let go of. If you have been feeling like your faith is stalled, take heart. Growth is rarely loud or dramatic. Most of the time it is quiet and slow, like roots going deeper underground. Keep showing up. Keep surrendering. Keep saying yes to Jesus, even in the small moments. That is what becoming looks like.
Bible Verse
'Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me, a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.' - 2 Timothy 1:13-14
Reflection Question
In what area of your life have you been treating faith as a destination rather than an ongoing journey of becoming?
Quote
You may go into a Bible study, finish that Bible study, move on to the next Bible study, but you never finish with discipleship. It is a lifelong process of becoming more and more like Him.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that You are patient with me as I grow. Help me to stop striving for arrival and start embracing the process of becoming more like You every day. Amen.
