The Flame That Forms Us [Bold Faith Is Sacrificial] Devotions Day 3

The Value of True Worship

Devotional
Sometimes the most beautiful acts of worship appear foolish to the world. When Mary poured out expensive perfume worth a year's wages on Jesus' feet, some called it waste. But Jesus called it beautiful. True worship often doesn't make sense to those watching. It might mean spending time in prayer when the world says you should be working. It might mean giving generously when others say you should save. It might mean forgiving when others say you should seek revenge. But when Jesus is our greatest treasure, these acts of worship become our most reasonable response.

Bible Verse
Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance. - John 12:3

Reflection Question
What act of worship is God calling you to that might seem foolish to others but would honor Him?

Quote
It does not make sense to the world to see someone pouring their life out in sacrifice to Jesus. With their valuable time, their abilities, the things that they value, and even their vocations. The world sees that as a foolish waste. But it's not a waste. It's true worship.

Prayer
Lord, give me courage to worship You authentically, even when others don't understand. Help me value Your approval above all else. Amen.
