Bold Faith [A Touch Of Faith] Devotions Day 4

Words That Bring Life

Devotional
Our words carry extraordinary power. The book of Proverbs tells us that "the tongue has the power of life and death." This isn't mere poetic language—it's a profound spiritual truth about the impact our speech has on ourselves and others. Every time we open our mouths, we have a choice: Will we speak words that bring life, hope, and encouragement? Or will we speak words of criticism, doubt, and despair? The words we choose can either build up or tear down, heal or wound, inspire faith or feed fear. This doesn't mean we practice some form of magical thinking where simply saying positive things makes them happen. Rather, it recognizes that our words reflect and reinforce what we believe, and they have real consequences in our lives and relationships. When we speak words of faith during difficult circumstances, we aren't denying reality... we're affirming a deeper reality about God's presence and power. When we declare God's promises over our situations, we align ourselves with His truth rather than being defined by our temporary struggles.

Bible Verse
The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. - Proverbs 18:21

Reflection Question
Think about your conversations over the past week. Were your words primarily life-giving or life-draining? How might you intentionally speak more words of life this week?

Quote
"When we open our mouths, we have the opportunity to bring life or death into a situation. We have the opportunity to speak life or death into a situation."

Prayer
Father God, make me aware of the power of my words. Guard my tongue from speaking death and train it to speak life. Help me use my words to encourage others and declare Your truth, even in difficult circumstances. In Jesus' name, amen.
