Strangers In This Land [Trust God's Promises] Devotions Day 1
The Call to Step Out
Devotional
Have you ever been asked to take a journey without knowing the destination? Most of us prefer having our GPS programmed before we leave the driveway. We want to know the route, the distance, and the estimated time of arrival. Yet God often works differently in our spiritual lives. In Genesis 12, we encounter Abraham (then called Abram) receiving an extraordinary call from God. At 75 years old—an age when most people are settling into retirement—God asked him to leave everything familiar behind and journey toward an unspecified destination. No detailed map. No clear timeline. Just a simple command: "Go to the land I will show you." What's remarkable is Abraham's response. He didn't negotiate or demand more information. He simply obeyed. He packed up his household, gathered his possessions, and set out toward the unknown. His obedience set in motion God's redemptive plan that would eventually bless all nations through Jesus Christ. God may be calling you to step out in faith today. Perhaps it's toward a new ministry, a difficult conversation, or a significant life change. The path ahead might not be clear, but the One who calls you is trustworthy. When we can't trace God's hand, we can trust His heart.
Bible Verse
The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you." - Genesis 12:1
Reflection Question
What is God asking you to step out in faith toward, even though you can't see the full picture yet?
Quote
"God often asks us to obey far before we can see the whole picture. We all want a game plan or a road map, but God doesn't work that way too often with us. He simply wants obedience from us, regardless of how much we can see in the moment."
Prayer
Lord, give me the courage to follow You even when the path isn't clear. Help me to trust Your character and Your promises more than my need for certainty. I surrender my desire for control and choose to follow You one step at a time. Amen.
