Strangers In This Land [Trust God's Protection] Devotions Day 1
Trusting God's Way Over Our Own
Devotional
We all face moments when fear tempts us to take matters into our own hands. Abraham, a man of great faith, fell into this trap when he arrived in the Negev. Fearing for his life, he introduced Sarah as his sister rather than his wife. His plan seemed logical from a human perspective... protect himself from potential harm. But in doing so, he demonstrated a lack of trust in God's protection and put others at risk. How often do we find ourselves doing the same? When challenges arise, our natural instinct is to rely on our own understanding and devise our own solutions. We convince ourselves that we know best, that we can handle things on our own. But Scripture warns us against this self-reliance. Trusting in our own insight might feel safer in the moment, but it often leads us down paths God never intended for us. True wisdom comes from acknowledging that God's ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts. When we surrender our plans and trust in His guidance, we find ourselves walking in true wisdom and safety.
Bible Verse
Those who trust their own insight are foolish, but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe. - Proverbs 28:26
Reflection Question
In what current situation are you tempted to trust your own understanding rather than God's guidance? What would it look like to fully surrender this situation to Him?
Quote
Ask yourselves, am I fully trusting God, or am I trying to do things my own way? I think a lot of times we overestimate our minds, thinking that we can solve our problems and figure it all out on our own without relying on God. And I think this is a recipe for disaster.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I've relied on my own understanding instead of trusting You. Help me to recognize when I'm trying to control situations out of fear rather than resting in Your perfect plan. Give me the courage to surrender my ways for Yours, knowing that Your wisdom far exceeds my own. Amen.
