God Makes All Things New [A New Season] Devotions Day 1

Don't Limit God to Yesterday's Methods

Devotional
Have you ever found yourself expecting God to work in your life exactly the way He worked before? Maybe you're waiting for Him to answer your prayers the same way He did last time, or you're looking for His guidance through the same channels you've experienced in the past. While God's character never changes, His methods often do. God reminded His people not to dwell on former things because He was about to do something completely new. This wasn't about forgetting His faithfulness, but about not boxing Him into yesterday's approaches. When we limit God to our past experiences, we might miss the fresh ways He wants to move in our lives today. Think about how different your life looks now compared to five years ago. God has been working in new ways all along, preparing you for seasons you couldn't have imagined. He's the God of fresh starts, new opportunities, and unexpected breakthroughs. His creativity in how He works in our lives is limitless. The beautiful truth is that God's testimony has always been from glory to glory. He doesn't just repeat the same patterns; He continuously does great new things among His people. What worked for your parents' generation might look different for yours. What brought breakthrough in your twenties might not be His method for your forties. Today, instead of trying to recreate past experiences with God, open your heart to the new things He wants to do. Release your expectations about how He should work and embrace the anticipation of how He will work. God is doing something fresh in your life right now, even if you can't see it yet.

Bible Verse
“But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. - Isaiah 43:18-19

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life are you limiting God by expecting Him to work only in ways you've experienced before, and how might you open yourself to His new methods?

Quote
What God is saying here is that we shouldn't expect God to move in a certain way just because that's the way he chose to move in the past.

Prayer
Lord, forgive me for putting You in a box based on my past experiences. Help me release my expectations about how You should work and open my heart to the new things You want to do in my life. Give me eyes to perceive the fresh ways You're moving, even when they don't match my previous encounters with You. Amen.
