Famous Last Words [Jesus Died So You Can Have Life] Devotions Day 1

The Cost of Love

Devotional
When Jesus declared “It is finished!”, He wasn't just saying it is over. These words carry deeper meaning than just completion. In marketplaces, it was stamped on bills to declare "paid in full". In courts, it was announced that justice was satisfied. In relationships, it signaled complete reconciliation. The word shares its root with "shalom," meaning wholeness and completeness. When Jesus declared "It is finished," He announced that: Our debt was fully paid, justice for sin was satisfied, and reconciliation with God was made possible.

Today, as you consider the events from the day Jesus was crucified, as you consider Jesus’ last words, as you ponder that weighty moment when His physical body died... try speaking these words aloud: When He said, "It is finished," He was talking about me.

How does it feel to know that your sins are covered and the debt is paid in full? When Jesus said “it is finished,” He was talking you.

Bible Verse
Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. - John 19:28-30
