Kingdom Logic [What Goes Down Must Come Up] Devotions Day 5
Choosing Servanthood
Devotional
In our age of unprecedented self-promotion, where social media has turned us all into publicists of our own brand, choosing servanthood feels radical. We're constantly tempted to showcase our achievements, highlight our successes, and build our personal platforms. But Jesus calls us to something different: choosing servanthood not as a stepping stone to something greater, but as our destination. This means serving others not because it will eventually get us noticed or promoted, but because service itself is the goal. When we genuinely embrace this calling, something beautiful happens. A servant who loves well becomes a leader without ever announcing it. A person who humbles themselves gains the kind of influence that money and titles can never buy. People are naturally drawn to those who serve without agenda, who love without expecting anything in return. This doesn't mean we can't have ambitions or goals. It means our primary ambition becomes loving God and serving others well. When we make this shift, we discover that the fulfillment we were seeking through self-promotion was available all along through humble service. The paradox is so true, and it will transform your life: when we stop trying to make ourselves great and start focusing on making others feel valued, we find the greatness we were looking for all along.
Bible Verse
'Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.' - James 4:10
Reflection Question
What would it look like for you to choose servanthood as a destination rather than a stepping stone in your current season of life?
Quote
A servant who loves well becomes a leader without ever announcing it. A person who humbles themselves actually gains the kind of influence that money and titles can never buy.
Prayer
Father, help me embrace servanthood as my calling and destination. Transform my heart to find joy in lifting others up rather than promoting myself.
