Cornerstone [A Stumbling Stone] Devotions Day 2

Earning What Is Already Yours

Devotional
There is a quiet lie that many of us believe without ever saying it out loud: that God's approval is something we have to earn. So we work harder, do more, and try to be better, hoping that one day we will finally feel like enough. But here is the truth that changes everything. God is not sitting at a distance, waiting to see if you measure up. He is not a distant judge keeping score. He is a Father who has already moved toward you. Colossians 2 warns against systems of rules and human-made religion that look spiritual on the surface but never actually reach the heart. They can make you look devoted while leaving you exhausted and empty. That kind of striving was never the goal. The shift that changes everything is not trying harder. It is trusting more. Trusting that what Jesus did is actually enough. Trusting that His approval is not a reward you earn but a gift you receive. You do not have to keep performing for someone who already loves you. That is not relationship. That is religion. And Jesus came to offer you something far better than religion. He came to offer you Himself.

Bible Verse
"Don't let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ." - Colossians 2:8

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life are you still trying to earn something from God that He has already freely given you?

Quote
"It is not that they didn't believe in God. But they believed in God as someone that they had to earn approval from, rather than someone who had already given it. The relationship had been replaced by a performance."

Prayer
Jesus, help me stop striving for what You have already given. Teach me to receive Your love instead of trying to earn it. Amen.
