Cornerstone [A Stumbling Stone] Devotions Day 5

Put It Down and Step On

Devotional
There is something freeing about realizing that following Jesus is not about adding more to your life. It is about putting something down. For many of us, the weight we carry is the need to prove ourselves. To God, to others, to ourselves. We carry the pressure of being enough, doing enough, and showing up enough. And it is exhausting. But Jesus is not asking you to carry that. He never was. The foundation has already been laid. It is solid. It is tested. And it will not crack under the weight of your failures, your doubts, or your worst moments. The invitation today is simple but not easy: name what you are carrying that was never yours to carry. Name the place where you have been striving instead of trusting. And then put it down. Trust is not a feeling. It is a choice. A quiet, daily decision to stop running and step onto the stone that has been waiting for you all along. Not because you have finally done enough, but because He is enough. That is the gospel, and it is good news for every single one of us.

Bible Verse
"You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor." - 1 Peter 2:4

"Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28

Reflection Question
What is one specific thing you have been carrying that you need to lay down at the feet of Jesus today?

Quote
"He is already the foundation. You don't have to earn it, you don't have to build it. You just have to stop trying to build something else and step onto the stone that's already been laid."

Prayer
Jesus, I am tired of carrying what was never mine to carry. I choose to trust You today, not because I have earned it, but because You are enough. Amen.
