Cornerstone [The Foundation Of God's Living Temple] Devotions Day 3

You Are Not Just in the Church, You Are the Church

Devotional
It is easy to think of church as a place you go. You show up, you participate, and then you go home. But Paul flips that idea completely. In Ephesians 2, he describes believers as stones being built together into a holy temple. Not bricks in a building you visit. Living stones in a structure that God Himself is constructing. And here is the part that should stop you in your tracks: that temple is where the Spirit of the living God now makes His home. The presence of God no longer lives in a building in Jerusalem. He lives in His people. In you. In the community of believers you do life with. This means that when you gather with other followers of Jesus, something sacred is happening. You are not just filling a seat. You are part of something God is actively building. Every person in that room is a stone in the same structure, and together you form something that none of you could be alone. You are not attending church. You are the church.

Bible Verse
"Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus Himself. We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord." - Ephesians 2:20-21

Reflection Question
If you truly believed that your presence among other believers was structurally important to God’s temple, how would that change the way you show up?

Quote
"You’re not attending a service, you’re participating in a temple where God lives. You’re not just getting something. You’re being built with all of God’s people together into the temple of God, His church."

Prayer
Lord, shift my perspective from attending to belonging. Help me to see that I am not just a spectator but a living part of what You are building. Amen.
