Dry Bones [God's Spirit] Devotions Day 4
Stop Fighting Sin. Start Chasing God.
Devotional
Here is something that might surprise you: focusing on sin can actually keep you stuck in it. When your entire spiritual energy is spent trying not to do the thing you do not want to do, your focus is still on that thing. And you tend to move toward whatever you are focused on. It is not a willpower problem. It is a focus problem. Galatians 5 is honest about the tension we all feel. The Spirit and our sinful nature pull in opposite directions, and that battle is real. But the instruction is not to white-knuckle your way through it. It is to walk with the Spirit, to keep in step with Him, to let Him lead. The shift that changes everything is moving from "how do I stop sinning" to "how do I grow closer to God." When you start pursuing Him, something natural happens. The closer you get to Him, the more distance grows between you and the things that used to pull you away. This is not about lowering the standard. It is about finding the right strategy. Chasing God is not the easy way out. It is actually the most effective path to real, lasting change. Let the Holy Spirit lead you toward something, not just away from something.
Bible Verse
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. - Galatians 5:16
Reflection Question
Are you spending more energy trying to avoid sin than you are pursuing closeness with God? What would it look like to shift that focus this week?
Quote
"The closer you get to him, the more distance you get from following your sin nature."
Prayer
God, shift my focus from what I am running from to who I am running toward. Lead me closer to You, and let that closeness be what changes me from the inside out.
