Hearts That Burn

Devotional
Two discouraged travelers were walking away from Jerusalem, their hopes shattered after the crucifixion. A stranger joined them on the road and began talking with them, opening up the Scriptures in a way that stirred something deep inside them. It wasn't until He broke bread with them that their eyes were opened and they recognized Him. It was Jesus. Looking back, they asked each other a question that captures something profound: "Didn't our hearts burn within us?" That burning is the difference between knowing about Jesus and truly knowing Him. It's not manufactured emotion or religious performance. It's what happens when the living Christ becomes real to you, not just as a historical figure, but as someone present, personal, and transforming. You might be in a season where your faith feels more like routine than relationship. That's okay. The two travelers didn't recognize Jesus at first either. But He was with them the whole time. He hasn't gone anywhere. The invitation is simply to stay at the table long enough to let your eyes be opened.

Lord, let my heart burn with a fresh awareness of Your presence. Open my eyes to see You in the everyday moments of my life. Amen.
