Truly Knowing Jesus [Ears To Hear] Devotions Day 2

Learning the Sound of His Voice

Devotional
Think about how a child recognizes their parent's voice in a crowded room. They are not analyzing it or comparing it to a list. They just know it, because they have heard it thousands of times in moments of comfort, correction, and everyday life. Familiarity built over time is what makes recognition possible. Hearing Jesus works the same way. You learn His voice by spending real time with Him, and the primary place that happens is in Scripture. Not as a checklist item. Not to impress anyone. But because the Bible is where His character, His values, and His way of speaking become familiar to you. There is a helpful picture in how bank tellers are trained to spot counterfeit bills. They do not memorize every fake. They study the real thing so thoroughly that anything false becomes obvious. The same principle applies here. The more time you spend with the genuine voice of Jesus in His Word, the easier it becomes to recognize what does not sound like Him. This is genuinely good news. You do not need a special gift or a dramatic experience to hear from God. You need consistency. A few minutes in the Gospels each morning. A quiet moment before the noise of the day takes over. Small, faithful habits that slowly make His voice the most familiar one in your life. You can start today.

Bible Verse
But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” - Matthew 4:4

Reflection Question
What is one small, practical habit you could build this week that would help you spend more consistent time in Scripture?

Quote
You know how bank tellers are taught to catch counterfeit money? They don't spend time trying to learn all the different types of counterfeit money out there. They learn how to spot what's counterfeit by spending so much time with the real thing.

Prayer
Lord, give me a genuine hunger for Your Word and the discipline to show up consistently. Teach me to recognize Your voice by spending real time with You. Amen.
