Following Jesus [Believe] Devotions Day 1

More Than a Fan

Devotional
It is easy to admire Jesus from a distance. To appreciate what He has done, to enjoy the stories, to show up when life gets hard and you need something from Him. But there is a difference between being a fan and being a follower. In John 6, a massive crowd tracked Jesus down the day after He fed thousands of people. Sounds devoted, right? But Jesus saw through it. They were not looking for Him. They were looking for more bread. They wanted what He could do, not who He was. If we are honest, we can fall into the same pattern. We come to Jesus when we need healing, direction, or peace. And those are not bad things to bring to Him. But Jesus is not just a resource to tap into when life gets difficult. He is a person who invites you into a real relationship. Here is the encouraging part: Jesus did not turn the crowd away in anger. He redirected them. He pointed them toward something better, something that would actually satisfy. He does the same for you today. You do not have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to ask yourself an honest question: Am I pursuing Jesus, or am I pursuing what Jesus can give me? That question is the starting point for everything.

Bible Verse
Jesus replied, 'I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs.' - John 6:26

Reflection Question
When you think about your relationship with Jesus, are you drawn more to His presence or to the problems He can solve for you?

Quote
It's possible to chase everything Jesus can do for you and never once want Jesus Himself.

Prayer
Jesus, forgive me for the times I have treated You like a vending machine instead of a Savior. Help me to want You, not just what You can do for me. Amen.
