Following Jesus [Believe] Devotions Day 3

What It Really Means to Believe

Devotional
Belief is one of those words we use so casually that it can lose its weight. We believe the weather forecast. We believe a friend when they say they will show up. But when Jesus says 'believe in me,' He means something far deeper than mental agreement. The Greek word He used is "pisteuo". It means placing your complete confidence, your full reliance, your personal surrender in someone. It is not passive. It is not just nodding along. It is the kind of trust that actually changes how you live. Think of it this way: a ticket to a concert is not something you admire from a distance. You do not study it, agree it is a great ticket, and then stay outside. You use it. You go in. Belief in Jesus works the same way. It is not something you hold at arm's length. It is something you step into. This kind of belief is available to you right now. Not because you have everything figured out, but because Jesus is trustworthy. He has proven Himself faithful. And He is inviting you to stop standing outside and actually come in. Real belief is not a burden. It is the most freeing thing you will ever do.

Bible Verse
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. - John 1:12

Reflection Question
Is your belief in Jesus something you hold intellectually, or is it something that has actually changed the way you live and trust Him?

Quote
When Jesus says, believe in me, He's using the Greek word pisteuo. It means placing your complete confidence, your complete reliance, your personal surrender in someone.

Prayer
Jesus, I want to believe in You with my whole life, not just my mind. Help me to move from knowing about You to truly trusting You with everything I am. Amen.
