Following Jesus [Become] Devotions Day 5
Stop Playing Christian. Become One.
Devotional
It is possible to look like a follower of Jesus without actually becoming one. You can attend the right services, say the right things, and still be fundamentally unchanged on the inside. But that is not what discipleship is. Discipleship is not a performance. It is a transformation. Becoming like Jesus means dying to the version of yourself that is still chasing comfort, control, and approval. It means picking up your cross daily, not as a punishment, but as a declaration that His way is better than yours. It is less of you and more of Him, every single day. This is a lifelong journey, not a one-time decision. There will be days you get it right and days you fall short. But the goal is not perfection. The goal is direction. Are you moving toward Him? Are you surrendering more today than you were last year? That is what growth looks like. You have been utterly loved by a God who gave everything to have you. Now let that love reshape everything about you. Not someday. Starting today.
Bible Verse
'Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it."' - Matthew 16:24-25
Reflection Question
Is there an area of your life where you have been going through the motions of faith without truly surrendering to what God is asking of you?
Quote
"Stop playing Christian. Become one."
Prayer
Lord, I do not want to just look like a follower. I want to actually become one. Transform me from the inside out, starting today. Amen.
