Bonfire [Sanctified Flesh] Devotions Day 1
The Cost of a Real Break
Devotional
There is a moment in Acts 19 that is hard to ignore. New believers gathered their sorcery books, worth millions, and burned them in public. No backup plan. No secret stash. Just a decisive, irreversible break from the old life. That kind of repentance is uncomfortable to think about because it raises a question most of us would rather avoid: Have I actually made a break, or have I just made a gesture? It is easy to confuse the two. A gesture feels like repentance. It might even look like it from the outside. But a gesture leaves a door open. A real break closes it, locks it, and walks away. Here is the encouraging part: that kind of courage is available to you. You do not have to manufacture it on your own. God is not asking you to be strong enough. He is asking you to be willing enough. The willingness to make a real break is where He meets you. Repentance is not about punishing yourself. It is about finally choosing something better. The believers in Acts 19 did not burn those books out of shame. They burned them because they had found something worth so much more. You have found that too. His name is Jesus, and He is worth the cost of a real break.
Bible Verse
"Many who became believers confessed their sinful practices. A number of them who had been practicing sorcery brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars." - Acts 19:18-19
"Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." - Acts 2:38
Reflection Question
Is there something in your life you have gestured toward giving up but have never fully released?
Quote
"Real repentance will always cost you something, but you need to understand what you gain in Jesus is worth so much more than anything you throw into the fire."
Prayer
Lord, give me the courage to make a real break and not just a symbolic one. I trust that what I gain in You is worth far more than anything I am holding onto. Amen.
