Bonfire [Sanctified Flesh] Devotions Day 2
Strip It Off and Keep Running
Devotional
Imagine trying to run a race in a heavy coat, carrying a backpack full of rocks. You might still move forward, but every step costs more than it should. That is exactly the picture Hebrews 12 paints for us. We are called to strip off two things: the weights that slow us down and the sins that entangle us. Weights are not always obvious sins. They can be unforgiveness, fear, distraction, or the quiet numbness we use to avoid dealing with what is really going on inside. Entangling sins are the ones we keep returning to, the ones we have confessed a hundred times and still find ourselves back in. Both have to go. Not because God is trying to take something from you, but because you cannot run well while carrying them. Here is what makes this so encouraging: you are not running alone. Hebrews 12 reminds us that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, people who already ran this race and finished it. They are not watching to see you fail. They are cheering you forward. You were made to run this race. You were not made to drag the weight of sin and fear across the finish line. Throw it off. Keep running. The finish line is real, and so is the One waiting there for you.
Bible Verse
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us." - Hebrews 12:1
Reflection Question
What weight or entangling sin has been slowing your race down, and what would it look like to actually throw it off today?
Quote
"It's an accumulation of their witness, their lives, their choices to trust God. They're like a stadium full of people who already ran the race."
Prayer
Father, show me what I am carrying that was never meant to come with me. Give me the strength to strip it off and the endurance to keep running toward You. Amen.
