Bonfire [Sanctified Worship] Devotions Day 1

Wired for Worship

Devotional
You were made to worship. That is not a flaw. It is one of the most beautiful things about being human. God designed you with a deep longing for something ultimate, something that truly satisfies. The problem is not the longing itself. The problem is where we aim it. Think about the things that consume your thoughts, your energy, your time. Approval from others. A sense of control. Comfort. Success. These things are not evil on their own, but when we look to them to fill the space only God can fill, they become idols. And idols always overpromise and underdeliver. Here is the encouraging truth: your longing is not the enemy. It is actually pointing you somewhere. Every restless desire, every moment of feeling like something is missing, is an invitation to look toward the One who can actually meet you there. Jesus said that if you drink from Him, you will never thirst again. That is not a small promise. That is everything. Today, pay attention to what your heart is reaching for. You do not have to have it all figured out. Just begin by being honest with yourself and with God about where you have been looking for life.

Bible Verse
'Jesus replied, "Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life."' - John 4:13-14

Reflection Question
What longing in your life have you been trying to satisfy with something other than Jesus?

Quote
"We are made for worship. We are made to be drawn to something ultimate. And our instinct towards worship is good. But when we worship false light; approval, comfort, control, status, whatever it is; when we worship that false light, we circle it obsessively and it consumes us."

Prayer
Lord, thank You for designing me with a heart that longs for You. Help me to recognize when I am reaching for the wrong things, and draw me back to You as my true source of life. Amen.
