Bonfire [Sanctified Worship] Devotions Day 2

Calling It What It Is

Devotional
One of the hardest and most freeing things you can do is call something by its real name. We are good at softening the truth about the things we cling to. We call it ambition instead of greed. We call it self-care instead of avoidance. We call it being responsible instead of control. But healing always begins with honesty. Before you can deal with an idol, you have to name it. Not to shame yourself, but to see it clearly. An idol is anything that has quietly taken the place of God in your heart. It is the thing you protect, the thing you would be devastated to lose, the thing you think about more than you think about Him. This kind of honesty takes courage. But it is also an act of trust. When you bring something into the light before God, you are saying, "I trust You with this." And He is faithful with what you bring Him. You are not defined by what you have been bowing down to. You are defined by whose you are. Today, ask God to show you what has been sitting on the throne of your heart. He already knows. He is just waiting for you to look with Him.

Bible Verse
'So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.' - Colossians 3:5

Reflection Question
What is one thing in your life that you have been reluctant to honestly call an idol, and what might that reluctance be telling you?

Quote
"What are you pursuing with your energy? What are you protecting? What are you hiding? What’s the thing that you would be devastated to lose? That’s your idol."

Prayer
God, give me the courage to be honest about what I have placed above You. Shine Your light into the corners of my heart and help me to see clearly so I can surrender fully. Amen.
