Bonfire [Sanctified Worship] Devotions Day 4

Removing What Is False

Devotional
Sanctification, the process of becoming more like Jesus, is often misunderstood. We tend to think it means adding more spiritual habits, more disciplines, more good things to our lives. But real transformation is just as much about removal as it is about addition. When we clear out what is false, what has been pretending to give us life, we create space for Christ to reign fully. This is not about becoming less. It is about becoming free. The idol was never giving you what it promised. Letting it go does not leave you empty. It leaves you open. This process takes time, and it is rarely clean or easy. There will be grief involved. When something has been a source of comfort or identity, even a false one, losing it feels like loss. God is not asking you to pretend it does not hurt. He is asking you to trust that what He offers is worth it. You are being shaped into something beautiful. The work happening in you right now, even the hard parts, is not punishment... It is transformation. And the One doing the work in you is faithful to finish it.

Bible Verse
'So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you... You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. But now is the time to get rid of [such things]... Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.' - Colossians 3:5-10 [Read these scriptures in your Bible.]

Reflection Question
What false source of identity or comfort might God be inviting you to grieve and release so He can fill that space instead?

Quote
"Sanctification is not about adding more to our lives. It’s the courageous work of removing what’s false so that Christ can reign completely."

Prayer
Lord, thank You that sanctification is Your work in me, not just my effort. Help me to trust the process, to grieve what needs to be grieved, and to believe that You are worth every act of surrender. Amen.
