More Than Enough [God's Word] Devotions Day 3

God's Patient Response to Our Doubts

Devotional
One of the most beautiful aspects of Gideon's story is not his doubt, but God's response to it. When Gideon asked for confirmation through the famous fleece test... first asking for the fleece to be wet while the ground stayed dry, then reversing the request... God could have been frustrated. He could have said, "Gideon, I already told you what to do. Stop asking for signs and just obey!" But that's not what happened. Instead, God graciously provided exactly the confirmation Gideon needed. Twice. This reveals something profound about God's character that should encourage every believer who has ever struggled with doubt. God is not impatient with our need for reassurance. He views our questions as opportunities to demonstrate His faithfulness and build our trust in Him. This doesn't mean we should constantly demand signs from God or use our doubts as an excuse for disobedience. But it does mean that when we're genuinely struggling with uncertainty, we can bring those struggles honestly to God. He understands that sometimes we need reassurance and confirmation, and in His mercy, He often provides it. God's patience with our doubts is actually a pathway to deeper faith, not a hindrance to it.

Bible Verse
Then Gideon said to God, “If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised, prove it to me in this way. I will put a wool fleece on the threshing floor tonight. If the fleece is wet with dew in the morning but the ground is dry, then I will know that you are going to help me rescue Israel as you promised.” And that is just what happened. When Gideon got up early the next morning, he squeezed the fleece and wrung out a whole bowlful of water. - Judges 6:36-38

Reflection Question
How does knowing that God responds to our doubts with patience rather than frustration change the way you approach Him when you're struggling with uncertainty or need confirmation about His will?

Quote
What's remarkable about this passage is God's response. Rather than becoming angry with Gideon for his lack of faith, God patiently responds to his request.

Prayer
Thank You, Lord, for Your incredible patience with my doubts and questions. Help me to bring my uncertainties to You honestly, trusting in Your grace and knowing that You use even my need for confirmation to strengthen my faith. Amen.
