Inside Out [A Righteous Lifestyle] Devotions Day 3
Where Your Heart Lives
Devotional
Jesus makes a startling observation: your heart follows whatever you treasure. Think about it; where do your thoughts naturally drift when your mind is free? What captures your attention, your time, your resources? These reveal what you truly treasure. If your treasure is earthly; money, status, possessions, approval... your heart will be constantly anxious, always chasing the next achievement or acquisition. But when your treasure is in heaven, when you find your security and identity in God's kingdom, your heart finds a different kind of rest. This isn't about ignoring practical responsibilities. It's about recognizing that earthly treasures are temporary and uncertain, while God's love and provision are eternal and secure. When you store up treasures in heaven through acts of love, service, and faithfulness, you're investing in what truly lasts. Your heart naturally follows, finding peace and purpose in what matters most. The beautiful truth is that God doesn't compete with earthly treasures; He offers something infinitely better.
Bible Verse
'Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.' - Matthew 6:20-21
Reflection Question
If someone examined how you spend your time, money, and mental energy, what would they conclude you treasure most?
Quote
Your heart follows whatever it is that you treasure. Your heart follows the thing that you deeply desire.
Prayer
Lord, help me treasure what You treasure. Align my heart with Your kingdom so that I find my security and joy in You alone.
